The Regional Institute of e-Learning & IT (RIELIT) has been recently setup as part of the Prime Minister's award to the people of Nagaland during his visit during October 2003. The Institute at Kohima will have the prime objective of creating skilled manpower in the area of Computer Science and Information Technology and related disciplines. The Institute will offer training programme to improve employment opportunities and facilitate availability of quality IT manpower, which will lead to growth of IT industry in the region.

The RIELIT project consists of 2 (two) phases.

Phase – I: Renting of a temporary premises and starting the courses immediately. (allocated fund for this purpose is Rs. 166.72 lacs for 2004 – 05 out of which 98 lacs had been sanctioned so far)

Phase – II: Allocation of 15 acres of land by Govt. of Nagaland as permanent site of RIELIT, construct infrastructure and functioning of institute from there. (allocated fund for this purpose is 1,169.1 lacs for the year 2005 – 06). Total project to be completed by 2007 – 08)

Location

Kohima, the capital of Nagaland, nestles in the hills at the far north-east of the country. It is well connected by air from Dimapur with Kolkata, Guwahati, NewDelhi. There is railway station at Dimapur (71 km) besides being connected by national highway No. 39. Nagaland state in which the institute is located has a number of tourist spots (the famous War cemetry is in Kohima, funded and maintained by the Commonwealth). It is also the gateway to the prosperous economic of South-East Asian Countries. The Nagaland state has curently 1 University and a number of undergraduate colleges. The permanent site of RIELIT campus is yet to come up in an area of 15 acre plot comprising staff quarters, student hostel, canteen facility etc. Presently RIELIT is located at Lerie Colony, NH-39 (Imphal - Road), Kohima.

RIELIT has started long term as well as short term courses from July 2004 onwards. Presently it is conducting DOEACC O and A Level courses besides other short term courses such as Course on Computer Concepts (CCC), Java, C, C++, VB etc. Recently it has started Hardware and Multimedia Courses, with dedicated faculty for each courses.
